LUDINGTON — Police are looking for a man who reportedly approached a female Ludington High School student on school grounds Wednesday, Sept. 17, and embraced her without consent. The student pushed the man away and was able to take his picture, states a joint press release from the Ludington Police Department and the Ludington Area School District.

“At approximately 1:20 p.m., Sept. 17, the Ludington Police Department was notified of a reported assault and battery incident that occurred earlier the same day on the property of Ludington High School at approximately 11 a.m.,” states the press release.

“According to LHS staff, a female student was participating in a school-sanctioned activity on school grounds when she was approached by an unknown male individual. The male reportedly called out to the student and then made physical contact by embracing her without consent. The student was able to push the individual away and safely remove herself from the situation. As she walked away, she managed to take a photograph of the suspect.

“The incident was reported a short time later by the student and a peer to school staff and the school resource officer from the Ludington Police Department. The photograph of the individual was promptly shared with school personnel, and surrounding schools were notified as a precautionary measure.

“Additional information indicates that the same individual may have been observed earlier in the day near Ludington Elementary School, along the perimeter of the school forest.

“The Ludington Police Department is actively investigating this incident. Anyone with information regarding the identity or whereabouts of the individual is encouraged to contact the Ludington Police Department. In addition to investigating this incident, Ludington Police Department officers and Mason County sheriff’s deputies will be conducting proactive patrols in the area over the next few days.”
