LUDINGTON — A 30-year-old Bear Lake man died at the Mason County Jail Saturday evening, Oct. 10, and an independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death is being conducted.
“The Mason County Sheriff’s Office is reporting the death of a 30-year-old male inmate who was in custody at the Mason County Jail,” states a press release from the Mason County Sheriff’s Office issued Sunday, Oct. 11. “The individual is identified as Brandon James Hall of Bear Lake, Mich.
“On October 10, 2026 at approximately 8:19 p.m., corrections deputies were doing routine inmate cell checks and discovered Mr. Hall having a medical emergency. He was unresponsive and not breathing. Lifesaving measures were immediately initiated, and Mr. Hall was transported to Corewell Health Ludington Hospital where he was pronounced deceased. Mr. Hall was secured in a cell by himself at the time and had no contact with other inmates. WMED in Kalamazoo, Mich. will be conducting an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
“The circumstances surrounding the death of Mr. Hall are currently under investigation. In order to provide loved ones with much needed answers and maintain full transparency with the public, the Michigan Sheriffs’ Association MISSION Team (Michigan Sheriffs’ Special Investigation Operations Network) will be conducting an independent investigation. The Mason County Sheriff’s Office is committed to ensuring a thorough, independent, and transparent investigation.
“Out of respect for the investigative process and the family of the deceased, no additional details will be released at this time. Further information will be provided as it becomes available and when appropriate.
“The Mason County Sheriff’s Office extends its sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of Brandon Hall during this difficult time.”
