Joan Carey
Joan K. (Hulet) Carey, 81, of Ludington, went home to be with her Lord on Thursday, May 21, 2026.
Joanie was born on June 10, 1944. She will be lovingly remembered for her bubbly spirit, sweet heart, and genuine love for people. Known for warmly calling everyone “hun” or “honey,” Joan had a special way of making others feel welcomed, cared for, and like family.
She cherished time spent with friends and loved ones, especially gathering for cards and bowling with “the girls.” Some of Joan’s favorite moments were the simple ones—relaxing on the porch, watching her favorite films, or enjoying a fun casino trip. Above all, Joan treasured the relationships she built and the joy of being surrounded by those she loved. Her warmth, laughter, and caring nature will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her.
Joan is lovingly survived by her children, James “Jim” Carey Jr. (Julianne), Jean Graham, and Jason Carey; her cherished grandchildren, Kaylen Hook (Jacob), Meghan Dutcher (Max), Sheldon Carey, Riley Wyatt (Blaine), Emily Graham (Magnus), and Daniel Graham (Natalie); and her three great-grandchildren, Evelyn, Ophelia and Jon. She is also survived by her sisters, Marilyn Sweet, Marjorie Carlson, and twin sister, Jean Maloney as well as siblings-in-law, Melvin Carey (Gail) and Max Carey Jr. (Marilyn); along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
Joan was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James A. Carey Sr.; her parents, Estelle Hulet (Haviland) and Harold Hulet; her sister, Madeline “Cookie” Chmielewski (Hulet), and brother-in-law, Ray Chmielewski; her brothers, Glen “Buzz” Hulet and Harold “Bud” Hulet; her brother-in-law, Joe Maloney; her brother-in-law, Caroll Sweet; and her parents-in-law, Ruth Carey (Horn) and Max E. Carey.
