Joyce Sorensen

We lost our Mom, Grandma, daughter, sister, aunt and friend on Monday, May 11, 2026. Joyce Leeann Sorensen, 62, of Scottville fought a courageous battle with cancer for over three years.  She was born on May 19, 1963 in Ludington, the daughter of Thomas and Audrey (Christensen) McDonald and graduated from Ludington High School with the class of 1981.

Joyce was one of a kind, a person that didn’t have much, but would give everything to a friend in need. She loved whole heartedly and had a smile that was contagious. Joyce was a fan of her three Fs: family, friends, and fight.  Joyce loved to read and was always venturing to the library in search of a new book which she could lose herself in. She enjoyed anything outdoors, especially living in the country where you could find her in a hayfield, picking mushrooms, or playing in the snow! Her children and grandchildren were the light of her life and she loved her whole family with all her heart, often greeting them with the best hugs. If you knew Joyce, you know she was a hard worker, always doing something and hated sitting still. Often on one of those hot summer days, you would find her taking a dip in the lake over at her brother’s place.

Joyce was preceded in death by her father Thomas McDonald and her brother-in-law Jason Compeau.

She will be greatly missed by her longtime companion Robert Anthony; her children Rob Sorensen, Amanda Sorensen, Rachel (Joseph) Martz, and Dylan Sorensen; her precious grandchildren Robbie, Leyna, Lyla, and Dannie; her mother Audrey McDonald; her siblings Marvin (Mary) McDonald, Julie Nieboer, Aage (Neta) McDonald, and Kim (Dave) Stalter; along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, and numerous great friends.

A gathering to remember and celebrate Joyce’s life will take place on Saturday, May 16 at the Christensen/McDonald cabin on Conrad Road, south of Scottville starting at 3:00 p.m.  Come and share a great story or memory of Joyce with her family.

Please visit Joyce’s memory page at www.wymanfuneralservice.com to share a tribute of Joyce with her family in case you can’t make it to the gathering on Saturday.
