RAVENNA — Mason County Central’s track and field teams turned in a complete showing Tuesday night, with the girls dominating and the boys grinding out close victories in a West Michigan Conference Lakes Division double dual at Bulldog Stadium.
The Lady Spartans delivered the most decisive performance of the night, defeating Ravenna 86-46 and North Muskegon 79-52 behind a combination of standout efforts and exceptional depth.
Maylan Sanders continued to lead the way, sweeping the 100-meter and 300-meter hurdles while adding a personal best in the 100 dash. But the difference came across the lineup, where Mason County Central piled up personal records.
Madelyn Sterley placed second in the 200 with a personal-best 28.34, followed by Reegan Healy (30.18). Aubrey Chye (14.76) and Luella Purple (16.86) added personal bests in the 100, while Lola Designe clocked a PR of 59.67 in the 300 hurdles. The Spartans’ depth showed in the 1,600 relay, where they took both first and second.
The distance group controlled its events, opening with a win in the 3,200 relay. Sophia Quick won the 800, Nevaeh Battice took the 1,600, and Adison Thorne captured the 3,200.
Raelyn Wilson added a third-place finish in the 800 with a personal-best 2:52.58, Jovi Campbell-Pickard posted a season-best 3:03.66, and Purple added another PR in the 800 at 3:38.11.
In the field, Faith Hawke swept the throws, including a personal-best 33 feet, 8 inches in the shot put, and added a high jump PR of 4-6. Bailey Bullard won the pole vault, Grace Wright recorded a personal-best 53-6 in the discus, and Alexis Lathrop placed third in the long jump.
“To go on the road and beat two solid opponents by such wide margins proves that we aren’t just relying on a few athletes; our entire roster is stepping up and securing points,” Mason County Central coach Jacob Boone said. “Watching so many girls hit personal and season bests across sprints, distance, and field events shows exactly how hard we are working at practice every single day. This was a complete, top-to-bottom team effort, and the momentum is exactly where we want it.”
The Mason County Central boys team, coached by Patrick Nelson, faced a much tighter battle but came away with wins over North Muskegon, 68-67, and Ravenna, 78-59, improving to 3-1 in WMC Rivers duals.
“We ran great today and the kids knew that it was going to be close between both teams and they stepped up,” Nelson said. “The second- and third-place finishes in events we didn’t expect ended up winning us the meet.”
The Spartans’ depth proved critical, particularly against North Muskegon, where sweeping the discus, pole vault and high jump provided a decisive edge.
Event winners for Mason County Central included Eli Smith in the 400 (53.87), Jackson Poll in the 300 hurdles (40.24), Desmond Thomas in the discus (126-8), and Eli Glamzi in the high jump (6-1). The 800 relay team of Smith, Poll and Caleb Bennetts also took first in 1:35.1.
Mason County Central will look to build on the strong showing Friday at the Big Rapids Cardinal Invite. Full results are available at athletic.net.
