LUDINGTON — The Orioles dropped to 5-6 on the season after being overpowered by Fruitport in a two-game series. Ludington lost the first game 10-3 and the second 12-1.
Coach Sierra Holmes said the Orioles had “both mental and physical mistakes that hurt us at times” against Fruitport.
Madison VanSickle pitched all seven innings in Game 1, striking out eight batters while allowing nine hits and four walks. Jacee Cole, Charlie Morse and Taylor King each had a hit, while Madelyn Kenyon hit a home run for Ludington.
Annika Heemstra started Game 2 for Ludington, pitching 1 1/3 innings before being relieved by VanSickle. VanSickle allowed three hits and three walks while striking out one batter. Cole and Kenyon recorded the only hits for the Orioles in Game 2.
“Fruitport put the ball in play and put pressure on us, and their pitchers definitely kept us in check,” Holmes said.
The Orioles will next play in a tournament in Holland on Saturday.
