MCC High School Band receives top honors at state festival

OTSEGO — The Mason County Central High School Symphonic Band, under the direction of Brian Parent, earned top honors at the Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association State Band Festival held Thursday at Otsego High School.

The MCC high school symphonic band received straight Division 1 ratings, the highest possible, from adjudicators, earning a superior designation.

Festival ensembles perform three prepared selections for a panel of three concert adjudicators, each scoring on a scale of one to five, with one being the highest. Bands also perform a separate piece through sight reading before a fourth adjudicator. The four scores are averaged to determine the final rating.
