
Tom Bentz
Thomas James Bentz, 30, of Scottville, affectionately known as Tom, Tommy, Tbone and Bigbird, passed away on Monday, June 30, 2025 in Grand Rapids after a lifelong battle with congenital heart disease. He was born August 16, 1994, in Ludington. Tom lived a passionate life filled with generosity and a zest for simple pleasures.
He was a 2012 graduate of Mason County Central High School where he was a career band student. He was also active in the drama club and forensics. He furthered his education at West Shore Community College and then on to Baker College setting the stage for his career in the culinary arts. Tom loved to cook and poured his heart into it. He created culinary experiences that always brought a little spice to those around him. His passion for food was matched only by his desire to bring happiness to others.
Tom’s personality was a beacon of warmth and kindness. He loved helping others, always ready to lend a helping hand and offer words of encouragement. He was a people person.
He made the selfless decision to become an organ donor, ultimately giving the gift to help over 78 other individuals. This act of profound selflessness stands as a testament to his caring nature and his desire to leave a lasting & positive impact on the world.
He had many hobbies and interests. He loved music, fishing, hunting, camping; He loved the outdoors and the peace that came with it. He possessed a keen eye for treasures….enjoying yard sales and antiquing. He loved karaoke and spending time at the family cottage where he could get away from the chaos of life, and recharge spending time with family. He liked joining forces with his siblings, pranking his parents.
Tom is survived by his father James Bentz (Sheri Pulsipher); three step-siblings, Randal Hansen, Brandi Pulsipher and Jacki Pulsipher (Tim Vickers); his mother Dawn Trombley and sister Annabelle Conway; his stepfather Bill Gasaway (Cindy VanTassel); his grandmothers Julie Ann Bentz (steadfast companion and caregiver); and Charlotte Bentz. He leaves behind many Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by great-grandparents James Cassan and Ethel Cassan; great-grandparents Morris E. Trombley and Emma (Trombley) Kramer; grandfather Larry J. Bentz; grandparents Morris (Buck) Trombley and Rosemarie Trombley; uncle Michael (Mikey) Trombley.
Tom leaves behind a legacy of kindness, generosity and a deep appreciation of the simple joys of life. His infectious laughter will be missed so much.
He lived life with no regrets & he would be happy to know the profound impact he has left in this world; He will be deeply missed.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, July 12, 2025 at 11 a.m. with an hour to visit family prior at United Methodist Church of Ludington, 5810 E Bryant Rd., Pere Marquette Township.
