Women Who Care of Mason County recently presented a check in the amount of $8,845 to Community Cats TNR. The Community Cats TNR mission is to work with compassionate individuals, local governments and other volunteers/community members to achieve population decline of unaltered, free-roaming, feral, and/or abandoned domestic cats through education and the use of a humane technique known as trap/neuter/return (TNR).
The monies that the organization received from Women Who Care helped to cover the cost to TNR 55 cats. Since the inception of the Community Cats in 2012, it has TNR’d 1,733 cats.
Women Who Care meets quarterly at United Methodist Church of Ludington, 5810 W. Bryant Rd. in Pere Marquette Township. During the meeting, participants hear from three charitable organizations that are randomly chosen from a drawing. The spokesperson has five minutes to make her pitch for the organization. Then, the group votes who will receive a donation from each individual.
Community Cats TNR was chosen during the group’s February meeting. The next meeting will be at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 5.
