Larry Brower

Lawrence Allen Brower, 76, passed away peacefully at home on May 2, 2025. Larry was born October 11, 1948 in Ludington to Lawrence O. and Freda (Randall) Brower. His great-grandparents were Riverton pioneer families Johann and Bertha Brauer and John and Martha Dargie.

Larry was a former member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Scottville. He graduated from Mason County Central High School in 1966 and later graduated from Ludington Beauty Academy. Larry was co-owner, with Sheila Shull, of Station 208 Family Hair Care in Ludington, serving customers and families for over 50 years. Previously, he had worked at Star Watch Case Factory as an engraver, was a truck driver for Mason County Fruit Packers, operated a cake catering business, and helped his father with the family fruit farm.

Larry served in the United Stated Army, first as a cook, and later as a helicopter gunner in the 101st Air Corps, Co. A, 229th Battalion, stationed in Tay Ninh Province, Vietnam. Shortly before discharge in 1970, he survived the downing of his helicopter, which sadly resulted in the death of his co-pilot.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his husband and best friend, Robert G. Clayton; his brother, Michael W. Brower of Santa Rosa Beach, Florida; several cousins, and a host of friends.

At his request, there will be no services. Cremation has taken place with a private burial at Center Riverton Cemetery in Scottville.

Arrangements were entrusted to Oak Grove Funeral Home of Ludington, www.OakGroveLudington.com.
