VICTORY TOWNSHIP — West Shore Educational Service District’s Career and Technical Education program has a new name, Summit Tech Center. The new name was revealed today during a public showcase event held at the program’s facilities at West Shore Community College and at Rybicki Center in Amber Township.
“As we heard from community stakeholders throughout the region regarding current CTE brand perceptions, several key commonalities rose to the top of the list,” said Summit Tech Center Principal Jamie Bandstra. “Those were competitive advantage, quality of programming and name confusion. After much consideration and team input, Summit was the name that the team felt best represented what the program is at its core.
“Summit, a word that embodies a coming together of thought leaders, eager to share their expertise and experiences.Summit, a word that represents exploration of career pathways, focused, leading-edge educational opportunities and an advantage that elevates students to the next level.Summit, a word that speaks of routes chosen, hard things overcome and, in the end, an achievement of goals set.Summit is career technical education. Explore. Educate. Elevate.”
Bandstra said over 450 11th and 12th grade students from Mason, Oceana, Lake, and Manistee counties attend Summit Tech Center.
For Mason, Oceana, and Lake counties students, the program is funded through a millage. Manistee County students pay tuition.
