PERE MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP — Amanda Hepworth won the Western Michigan Fair 2024 Homemaker of the Year on Wednesday. Hepworth was very excited to be a first time winner of the award.

“I have entered the competition six of the last eight years,” she said. “Since I was little I was coming to these barns (with her grandmother) and admiring the different items the ladies would enter.”

That inspired Hepworth to pursue the Homemaker of the year as an adult.

“This is something that I have always wanted to win,” she said.

Some of the things Hepworth loves to do are grow produce and canning.

Hepworth was crowned just outside of the Domestic Arts Building where many of her items will be on display for the remainder of the fair. Hepworth also won best in show for dehydrated foods during the 85th Western Michigan Fair.

“I was shaking when I heard my name called,” she said. “I have a lot of respect for all the other ladies.”

There were a total of five participants who entered the 2024 Homemaker of the Year.

The Western Michigan Fair continues until Saturday. To view the complete fair schedule visit the Western Michigan Fair Association’s website: masoncountyfairgrounds.com.
