Meet MCP’s summer intern, Brooke Hammond

June 4, 2024

By Rob Alway, Editor-in-Chief

I would like to introduce Brooke Hammond, who is serving a summer internship with MCP. Brooke attends Pensacola Christian College in Florida where she is majoring in professional writing. She plans on earning a bachelor’s degree in English with a concentration in professional writing. Brooke is the daughter of Jeffery and Karen Hammond of Amber Township and has lived in various areas of Michigan, living most of her life in the Scottville/Ludington areas.

She graduated high school from Abeka Academy, an accredited home-schooling program.

“I would like to work for a newspaper, freelance as a technical writer, or teach high school English,” Brooke said. “I have always been an active reader, writing seemed to be a natural path for a career because of this. I like the clear way information is communicated with journalism. The wordiness of legal writing or even the adjective-heavy way of fictional writing is not something that entices me as a writer.”

Brooke has already posted one assignment for MCP with others planned over the next two months.

“My biggest goal is to strengthen my ability to write in the field of journalism,” she said. “I want to continue clearing up my words to be more understandable. I am also hoping to improve my editing techniques as well as my interviewing skills. Other personal goals include getting to know my community more and making connections with different members of the local community.”

Her paid jobs over the summer include working for her parents who own Hammond Animal Removal and Hammond Camper Rentals.

“I am often found in blue plastic gloves cleaning a camper, or helping my mom set up a unit in a camper lot at a local campground,” she said. “This summer is a particularly busy summer since I am working for the camper business, helping my family rebuild our house that we lost in a house fire last summer, and completing my internship for my degree requirements.”

Brooke plans on graduating from college in May 2025.
