LUDINGTON — A 21-year-old Fort Campbell, Tennessee man pleaded guilty to all four counts in connection to an attempt to enroll as a Mason County Central High School student last February after meeting an MCC student online.
Kevin Gerald Flick is convicted of child sexually abusive activity, child sexually abusive material possession and two counts of using a computer to commit a crime after pleading guilty Tuesday, May 7, in Mason County’s 51st Circuit Court.
Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole said the female victim is 17 years old.
Flick was arrested at the scene by the Mason County Sheriff’s Office, Feb. 13.
“… a Mason County Central School employee became suspicious of a male who was attempting to enroll at the MCC school,” said Sheriff Cole. “The employee alerted Deputy Luke Postma, the Mason County School resource deputy assigned to the school, who immediately made contact with (Flick) and started an investigation.”
Through the investigation, it was discovered that Flick had attempted to enroll at MCC as a 17 year old. Deputies were provided various names and dates of birth before learning Flick’s true name and age. He had met an MCC student online in an effort to engage in a relationship with her.
Flick flew from Tennessee to Grand Rapids and then found transportation to Mason County where he met the victim.
Child sexually abusive activity is a felony punishable by up to seven years in prison, and child sexually abusive material possession is a felony that carries a four-year maximum. Punishment for using a computer to commit a crime varies.
According to court records, Flick posted bond, April 2.
“Kevin Flick pled guilty to all four counts pursuant to a plea and delayed sentence agreement,” said Mason County Chief Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Beth Hand. He is scheduled to appear for sentencing, July 16.
