Couple arrested for stolen vehicle, drugs following Walmart shoplifting incident

PERE MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP — Mason County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested a man and a woman early today with charges of stealing a vehicle and possessing illegal drugs.

According to Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole, deputies were called to Walmart, 4853 W. US 10, at 1:37 a.m. regarding a report of retail fraud (shoplifting) involving the alleged theft of over $800 worth of merchandise.

Cole said  the suspects left the scene, however, a vehicle registration was provided by Walmart Loss Prevention.  The plate given, was reported stolen out of Kalamazoo County.  A deputy spotted the suspect vehicle at the Airport Shell, 5445 W. US 10, at US-10 and Pere Marquette Highway.

As a result of the investigation, the drier, a 46-year-old Gaylord man, was arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle and a 41-year-old Kalamazoo woman, a passenger, was arrested and charged with possession of methamphetamine.

Cole said suspected heroin and methamphetamine were recovered from the vehicle and the case remains under investigation related to the retail fraud.
