LUDINGTON — Two new directors were appointed to the Mason County Promise Zone Authority Board of Directors during its April 8, 2024 meeting: Michael Haveman and Michael Masters.

Haveman is captain of Ludington Police Department and has lived in Mason County over 20 years. He has also taught law enforcement classes at West Shore Community College.

Masters is dean of occupational programs at West Shore Community College. He has broad past experience in higher education and in educational administration at the elementary and secondary levels as well.  His current efforts also bridge levels of education, as Masters serves on the leadership team for the state Early-Middle College Association.

“I love that Mason County residents have invested in the youth of today and leaders of tomorrow,” said Masters.

The Promise Scholarship, issued under the authority of the Promise Zone board, covers tuition and mandatory fees at WSCC for eligible students. The Promise Zone Board is an 11-member public board that governs the Promise scholarship and related activities. For more information, visit
