Dawn Morin

Dawn M. Morin, 76, passed away on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, at home.  She was born on February 8, 1948, to Luther and Arlene (Cutler) Ryder in Muskegon, which has always been home. She graduated from Muskegon High School, class of 1966.

Dawn was a dedicated employee of Meijer for 40-plus years, working as a hi-lo operator before retiring in 2006.  She was a woman of faith and attended Trinity Baptist Church for numerous years.

Dawn was a sociable person who easily made a stranger a friend. She was part of a stamping group that was known to make beautiful cards. Dawn also loved being outdoors soaking up the sun, always barefoot. She was known to “Fred Flintstone” just about anywhere. Dawn also was a friendly and generous face in her community, who always had an open-gate policy when it came to using her pool. She was an avid world traveler.

Above all, she loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She made it a priority to be the best sports attendee, cheering them on at every tournament. She will always be remembered as a loving mother, amazing Nana, and wonderful sister. Her radiant smile and tender-loving spirit will be missed by so many.

She is survived by her daughters, Nicole (Matt) Calkins and Sarah (Lee) Slater; three grandchildren, Nevin Slater, Cade Calkins and Lilly Slater; brother, Ron Ryder; many dear cousins and friends; and cat companion, Oliver.

She was preceded in death by her parents.  A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at Trinity Baptist Church, 4381 S. Sheridan Dr., Muskegon.  A visitation with the family will be held one hour prior at the church.

Dawn will be laid to rest at Norton Cemetery.

Memorial contributions in her honor can be directed to the Ronald McDonald House Charities West Michigan, 1323 Cedar St. NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49403.

Arrangements entrusted to The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 S. Harvey St., Norton Shores, MI 49444. Share memories with the family at www.sytsemafh.com.
