United Way fundraising campaign falling short of goal

LUDINGTON — United Way of Mason County is currently short of its 2023/2024 fundraising campaign goal.

“So far, we expect our 2023 fundraiser to be falling short of our campaign goal,” said Alex Richert, campaign co-chair. “I encourage everyone in our community to consider giving to the campaign. 98% of every donation will go towards meeting the needs of Mason County residents. If you have some extra funds to share, now is the time to make a positive impact in the community to help those in need.

This year’s campaign goal is $345,000 and the current fundraising is at $305,000.

United Way of Mason County manages two community programs, the Lakeshore Employer Resource Network and Mason County Family Link, along with providing grants to local organizations that request funds such as the Ludington Area Senior Center, Habitat from Humanity, Staircase Youth Services, and COVE. Organizations apply yearly for the funds and dollars are allocated based on the success of the campaign.

“We have many people and organizations counting on us for funding support throughout Mason County,” said Lynne Russell, executive director of United Way of Mason County. “In order to successfully fund these valuable programs and organizations, we need the community’s support.”

The Lakeshore Employer Resource Network is run by participating local companies and assists employees in removing barriers that may prevent an employee from being successful in the workplace. Mason County Family Link helps students and their families in local participating school districts and West Shore Community College to be successful in school. This program also provides behavioral health counseling at West Shore Community College .

Any gift helps further its impact on the community, whether it is large or small, Russell said, adding that 98% of everything given stays in Mason County.
