Obituary: Marlene Monton, 87, of Ludington

Marlene J. Monton, 87, of Ludington, formerly of The Villages of Florida, and Pentwater, passed away peacefully Saturday, February 10, 2024, at Oakview Medical Care Facility in Ludington.

Marlene was the eldest of five children born to John and Nellie Jorissen.  She married the love of her life Charles Monton, enjoying 59 years of marriage.  Together they raised five children in Pentwater.  Marlene dedicated many years working as an operator at the telephone company in Hart and later at Mitchell Bentley in Ludington. Retirement took her and Charles to The Villages of Florida where they spent a glorious 25 years together.  Following Charles’s passing in March of 2021, Marlene relocated to Ludington where she spent her remaining years.

Marlene exemplified strength and independence, having the kindest heart, always with a positive outlook on life.  While at the Villages, she enjoyed being an active member of the Computer Club.  She loved watching the Detroit Tigers as well as “Jeopardy” and “Wheel of Fortune”.  Marlene loved her country music, growing beautiful flowers and caring for her vegetable gardens.  She was also a crafter at heart, making quilts for all her children and grandchildren.  In her younger years she excelled in sewing her children’s clothing and making the best bread and pies in western Michigan.

Marlene will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by her children; Dianna (Vinney) Ferrara, Lisa (Dan) Roesler, Tom (Toni) Monton, Pam (Terry) Lewis, Ronda (David Rop) Clark; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; extended family and by all those who knew her.

Marlene is also survived by her sisters; Marilyn Thompson and Brenda Decker; and her brother, Roger Jorissen.

Marlene was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband, Charles Monton; and her brother, Marshall Jorissen.

Special thanks to the staff of Sherman Oaks Manor and Oakview Medical Care Facility for their care and kindness.  In honor of Marlene, please consider donating blood or making a contribution to the American Cancer Society.

Marlene never wanted to be the center of attention and as such a private celebration of life will be held at a later date with burial at the Hart Cemetery.

Beacon Cremation & Funeral Service, Pere Marquette Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.
