Man arrested on several warrants during Walmart shoplifting investigation

PERE MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP — Mason County sheriff’s deputies investigated three separate shoplifting/retail fraud cases over the weekend at Walmart, located at 4854 West US 10.

One retail fraud investigation yielded the arrest of a 35-year-old Ludington man who was wanted on three outstanding warrants Saturday, Jan. 27, shortly after 9 p.m. “While investigating a retail fraud, Mason County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) deputies discovered the reported suspect had multiple warrants for his arrest,” said Sheriff Kim Cole. The suspect had outstanding warrants for failure to appear on a felony charge in Lake County; a criminal bench warrant for contempt of court issued by the Big Rapids Police Department; and a criminal bench warrant for contempt of court issued in Manistee County. He was lodged in the Mason County Jail.

A report will be forwarded to the Mason County Prosecutor’s Office for a 48-year-old Holland, Michigan woman who reportedly “under rang” items Saturday, Jan. 27, at approximately 3:30 p.m., said Sheriff Cole.

A third retail fraud investigation was conducted by the sheriff’s office at Walmart over the weekend Friday shortly before 4:30 p.m. ​The case remains under investigation, said Cole.

  • 2:20 a.m., (MSP), a 27-year-old Hart man was arrested on a failure to appear warrant, Wildwood Apartments, Amber Township.
  • 6:40 p.m., (MSP), a 35-year-old Scottville woman was arrested on a failure to appear warrant, US 10 near Arby’s restaurant, Amber Township.
  • 7:30 p.m., (MSP), a 40-year-old Fountain man was cited for driving without insurance, Benson Road near Hansen Road, Branch Township.
  • 7:42 p.m., (MSP), a 50-year-old Scottville woman was cited for driving without insurance, US 10 near Stiles Road, Amber Township.

Friday, Jan. 26, 2024:

  • 11:34 a.m., (MCSO), two-vehicle crash, no injury, US 10 and US 31, Amber Township.
  • 10:32 p.m., (MCSO), car/deer crash, no injury, Fountain Road west of Dennis Road, Victory Township.

Saturday, Jan. 27, 2024:

  • 2:28 a.m., (MCSO, alarm activation, Amber Township.
  • Noon, (MCSO), two-vehicle hit-and-run crash, no injury, 3000 block of West US 10, Amber Township.

Sunday, Jan. 28, 2024:

  • 12:02 a.m., (MCSO), alarm activation, Amber Township.
  • 12:36 a.m., (MCSO), car/deer crash, no injury, Scottville Road north of Kistler Road, Eden Township.
