Amber board appoints Copenhaver as trustee

AMBER TOWNSHIP — The Amber Township Board of Trustees, during a special meeting Tuesday, Jan. 2, appointed Rita Copenhaver as a township trustee. Copenhaver fills a vacancy left by Tom Alway who was appointed supervisor following the retirement of Jim Gallie on Dec. 31, 2023.

Five Amber Township residents submitted a letter of interest for the vacancy. They included Noah VanDusen, Shawn McDonald, Tim Husted, Edwin Schuitema and Copenhaver.

Copenhaver’s term expires on Dec. 31 and will be up for election in November during the General Election. Copenhaver most recently worked 17 years for Mason County, mostly as the administrative assistant to County Administrator Fabian Knizacky and later assisting the emergency management coordinator before her retirement. She is a graduate of Mason County Central High School and has lived in Victory and Amber townships most of her life. Copenhaver is a Democrat and ran unsuccessfully for county commissioner in 2022.

The board also appointed a Jeanne Miller as emergency deputy treasurer.
