MCE student arrested after resisting deputy

CUSTER — An 18-year-old Custer man, a student at Mason County Eastern High School, was arrested Friday, Dec. 15, on felony charges of probation violation and resisting/obstructing/assaulting a police officer. According to Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole, the incident occurred at the high school when the school resource officer (SRO), a Mason County sheriff deputy, attempted to make contact with the student over a reported stolen phone. Cole said the student then swung at, and attempted to punch the deputy while yelling profanities.

“The suspect was taken to the ground and a struggle ensued while he was allegedly attempting to spit on the deputy,” Cole said.

The SRO was assisted by the Mason County Central SRO, Scottville Police Department and Michigan Department of Natural Resources law enforcement.

The school communicated with parents about the incident stating that at no time there was any harm to other students at MCE. The school also stated, on its Facebook page, that no weapons were involved in the incident.

The incident occurred at 10:59 a.m.
