Safe Harbor Credit Union to hold food collection event Friday

PERE MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP – On Friday, Nov. 3, Safe Harbor Credit Union will host an event titled “Best Day Ever” to collect items for local food banks. The event is held in partnership with Kasasa and the Dream Machine. Safe Harbor Credit Union will be collecting items needed for three of its local food clubs. It will be a two-prong event. From 9 a.m. – 3 p.m., the local radio station will be broadcasting live from the branch for its “dance party.”  Any member who drops off an item on the “grocery list” will be able to request a song, give a “shout out”, and more.

Secondly, credit union employees will be at Family Fare grocery store from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. handing out shopping lists to patrons, with the goal of filling multiple grocery carts with needed items. Finally, there will be a crew out in the area passing out inspirational cards with cash tucked inside.

Kasasa, which offers free reward checking accounts and the Dream Machine, founded by Charlie Rocket, have joined with community financial institutions across the country with the goal of performing 100,000 acts kindness in a single day.

Safe Harbor Credit Union’s local event is its contribution to the nationwide effort aimed at showcasing the significance of community banks and credit unions.

“A random act of kindness changed my life when I was in a dark moment and diagnosed with a brain tumor,” said Rocket. “That’s when I learned the power of something so simple: being seen by a stranger. I’m excited for November 3 because when community financial institutions kick off this event, it will have a ripple effect across the country.”
