Obituary: Lillian Keating, 91, of Ludington

Lillian F. Keating, 91, of Ludington, passed away on Monday, October 23, 2023. Lil was born February 14, 1932 in Amber Township to Anton Edward and Jennie (Olson) Pederson.

Lil was the youngest of their 11 children including Julia Dumas, Peter, George/Todd, Mabel Ring, Albert/Ole, Jeanette Petersen, John, Vera Foose, Ray and Ben.

Lillian was a graduate of Ludington High School and she married Pete (Donald Raymond) Keating on May 5, 1951.  Lil began working part-time after her five children entered school. She enjoyed working at Fort Ludington, Shillingers Gift Shop and the Hallmark Store.

In her spare time she enjoyed bowling, golf, gardening, cards and board games.  She had a competitive streak and the family joke was that she never “let” the kids or grandkids win but she always said they had to “earn” the win. In her 70s she learned to play bridge and the bi-weekly bridge games at the Ludington Senior Center became a treasured part of her life. Her fellow bridge players became like family to her. She often played three to five times per week and still found time for her family/friend card games on Friday night hosted at her home.

Lil is survived by: her children, Kareen (Tony) Monton, Beth (Jim) Nickelson, Carol (Erv) Campbell, Michael (Lorree) Keating, and son-in-law Robert Hodges; her grandchildren, Brian (Cathy) Monton, David Nickelson, Ben (Charlotte) Nickelson, Matthew Nickelson, Curvin Campbell and Lacy, Skyler Campbell and Phoebe, Cody (Kate) Campbell, Casey Campbell, Danielle (Jason) Holley, Allison Hodges and Adam (Erin) Hodges; her great-grandchildren, Preston, Mason and Mia Nickelson, Philip, Lilian and Ryla Campbell, Riley and Avery Hodges; and her special niece, Pam Petersen Christiner.

Lillian was preceded in death by: her husband, Pete (Donald) Keating in 2016, and her daughter, Mary (Robert) Hodges in 2021.

A family burial will take place in the Pere Marquette Catholic Cemetery.

Friends and family with gather at a celebration of life at a time to be determined.  In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a contribution in memory of Lil to the Ludington Senior Center or to the Ludington Animal Pound.
