County board to interview administrator candidates

LUDINGTON — The Mason County Board of Commissioners will interview four candidates for the county administrator position. Current administrator Fabian Knizacky will be retiring early in 2024.

Selected to be interviewed are Timothy Dolehanty, current Oegnaw County administrator, Mark Justin, former Gladwin County administrator, Jason Schlicht, DTE Energy gas operations supervisor, and Kaitlyn Szczypka, Elk Rapids village clerk and human resources director.

The first round of interviews will be held during the Tuesday, Nov. 14 board of commissioners meeting, which begins at 9 a.m. The board will then hold a special meeting at 9 a.m. on Nov. 16 to discuss the candidates. At that time it will either select candidates for a second interview, to be held at 9 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 20, or select an administrator.

All meetings will be held at the Mason County Airport Terminal conference room.

The four candidates were selected out of an applicant pool of 21 candidates by consultant Frank Walsh.

“We are pleased with the progress we have made in the search for our next administrator,” said Janet Andersen, chair of the Mason County Board of Commissioners. “We are confident that we will find an excellent individual to lead us into the future.”

Knizacky was hired in 1994 as the county’s first administrator. He will retire on Feb. 29.
