Obituary: Barbara Carrier, 82, of Ludington

Barbara J. Carrier, 82, of Ludington, passed away on Saturday, October 21, 2023.

Barb was born on December 10, 1940 in Oak Park, Illinois, the daughter of Charles and Vernis Kramer.  She married Walter Carrier on June 28, 1957 in Tate County Mississippi.  Barb was a member of St Mary’s Catholic Church in Custer.  Her faith was first, followed by family and friends.

From 1977 through 1984, she was known as Mrs. C to the many inmates she fed while working as the cook for the Mason County Jail, even dressing up as a prisoner to serve them on Halloween.  She was a very sociable woman with a great sense of humor and enjoyed all things crafty from quilting to stamping cards along with working on jigsaw puzzles.  In her earlier years, before the tremors set in, she also enjoyed dabbling in painting.

Barb is survived by her children, Kim (Claude) Haynes from Free Soil, Wally (Donna) Carrier from Shelby, Sheila (Rodney) from Manistee, Greg (Wendy) from Granger, Ind. and Lisa (Kevin) from Tuscon, Az. and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Besides her parents, Barb was preceded in death by her husband, Walt Carrier; her infant daughter, Kaleen; and her sister, Vernis Howard.

A Mass from the Order of Christian Funerals will be held on Friday, October 27, 2023, at 11 a.m. at St Mary’s Catholic Church in Custer with Rev. Daniel DePew presiding followed by a luncheon. Visitation on Friday will begin at 10 a.m. Visitation will also be held on Thursday, October. 26. 2023 from 5 to 7 p.m. followed immediately by a Rosary, all at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Barb will be laid to rest next to her husband at Pere Marquette Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to the family.
