Cages of Carnage goers will stay drier with new entrance tents

FREE SOIL TOWNSHIP — Fans of horror will stay a little drier this year when they wait in line to enter the Camp Sauble Cages of Carnage. The fifth season of the popular seasonal attraction begins Saturday, Oct. 14 and will continue on Friday and Saturday evenings through the end of the month (Oct. 20, 21, 27, and 28) from 7:30 to 11:30 p.m.
The event is a fundraiser for Free Soil/Meade Fire Department, Grant Township Fire Department, and, new this year, Fountain Area Fire Department.
A noticeable addition will be large tents at the entrance, supplied by Grant Fire Department.
“We’ve worked really hard to streamline the pre-entry process,” said Free Soil/Meade Fire Chief Vince Williams. “The wait may still be long, but hopefully we can keep a lot of them dry. Grant Fire Department purchased the tents this year and they are used for its chicken barbecue in late August and the haunted prison.”
The event is located in the former Camp Sauble prison, located at 4058 E. Free Soil Road, just east of Darr Road.
“Every year we completely change the attractions,” Williams said. “This year we’ve added a crop maze which the guests will go through — in the dark — with fog and surprise visitors.
“It’s important that we keep this fresh every year,” Williams said. “It’s a lot of work and requires a lot of volunteers but it’s been a great way to help improve our fire departments.”
Admission is $15.
