Millennium Brass performance to feature Scottville native Marty Erickson

WSCC News is a presentation of West Shore Community College in partnership with Mason County Press.

VICTORY TOWNSHIP — West Shore Community College’s Performing Arts Series will present the Millennium Brass featuring Scottville native and Mason County Central alumnus (class of 1965) Marty Erickson on Friday, Oct. 20, at Center Stage Theater.  The performance will begin at 7:30 p.m.

Showcasing jazz and pops styles as well as the classical idiom, the members of the Millennium Brass display a rare versatility in their playing. Collectively, they have performed as solo and section members with many of America’s leading orchestras. Now in their 24th year, the group brings together some of America’s finest brass players:  Vince DiMartino, Rich Illman and Gabriel DiMartino on trumpet; Lisa O. Bontrager, horn; Scott Hartman, trombone; and Marty Erickson, tuba.

Each of these musicians has earned international recognition by virtue of their performances as soloist/chamber musician as well what they do in the classroom. They now hold or have held faculty appointments at some of the country’s most prestigious colleges and universities, including Boston University, the Eastman School of Music, Indiana University, Yale University, University of Kentucky, Michigan State University, New England Conservatory, Penn State University, East Carolina University and Lawrence University.

“It is an honor to have a world-renown instrumental ensemble to kick off our current series,” said Ted Malt, director of performing arts and professor of music studies.  “To have Scottville native Marty Erikson be a part of this simply sweetens the deal!”
