Sheriff’s office investigates mailbox fires

The Mason County Sheriff’s Office is investigating multiple mailbox fires and vandalism over the Labor Day Weekend. “Deputies responded to multiple calls regarding mailboxes either smashed or set on fire on Conrad Road, Meyers Road and Brye Road” Friday, Sept. 1, at 11:19 p.m. in Amber Township, said Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole.

Deputies also responded to the 6300 block of West Dewey Road in Hamlin Township Friday at 7:44 a.m. for three mailboxes that were damaged.

A resident reported to police Saturday, Sept. 2, around 11 a.m. that a vehicle window was broken during the night on Tall Oaks Dive in Hamlin Township, said Sheriff Cole.

Friday, Sept. 1, 2023:

  • 12:22 a.m., (Mason County Sheriff’s Office), car/deer crash, no injury, Sugar Grove Road east of US 31, Sherman Township.
  • 4:57 a.m., (MCSO), car/deer crash, no injury, US 31 north of Koenig Road, Free Soil Township.
  • 6:47 a.m., (MCSO), alarm activation, Amber Township.
  • 7:41 a.m., (MCSO), alarm activation, Hamlin Township.
  • 11:04 a.m., (Ludington Police Department), a 50-year-old Free Soil man was cited for driving without a license, ​Rowe and Stray​ streets, City of Ludington.
  • 1:35 p.m., (MCSO), a 45-year-old Scottville man turned himself in to the sheriff’s office on a misdemeanor warrant issued by the Scottville Police Department, City of Ludington.
  • 3:31 p.m., (LPD), ​a 50-year-old Ludington man was cited for driving while license suspended (DWLS), 700 block of East Brother Street​, City of Ludington.
  • 6:40 p.m., (MCSO), car/deer crash, no injury, Countyline Road west of US 31, Grant Township.

Saturday, Sept. 2, 2023:

  • 9:07 p.m., (MCSO), one-vehicle crash, no injury, Sugar Grove Road west of Stephens Road, Sherman Township.
  • 9:58 p.m., (MCSO), alarm activation, Summit Township.

Sunday, Sept. 3, 2023:

  • 1 a.m., (MCSO), one-vehicle crash, no injury, Meisenheimer Road west of Darr Road, Eden Township.
  • 11:43 a.m., (MCSO), a 58-year-old Baldwin man received minor injuries following a two-vehicle crash, Walhalla Road north of Barothy Road, Branch Township.
  • 5:51 p.m., (MCSO), a 42-year-old Mason County man was arrested on two outstanding failure to appear warrants following a reported disturbance, Alpine Motel, Branch Township.
  • 8:20 p.m., (Michigan State Police), a 41-year-old Battle Creek man was arrested for operating while intoxicated, North Taylor Road north of US 10, Branch Township.

Monday, Sept. 4, 2023:

  • 12:06 p.m., (MSP), a 46-year-old Kalamazoo man was cited for DWLS, northbound US 31 near the Ludington rest area, Summit Township.
  • 9:22 p.m., (LPD), ​a 38-year-old Ludington woman was arrested on an outstanding warrant for littering issued by the 79th District Court, 1000 block of South Madison Street​, City of Ludington. She was lodged in the Mason County Jail.
