VIDEO: Firefighters extinguish wheat field fire
CUSTER TOWNSHIP — Firefighters were called to a wheat field fire at 1:15 p.m. today, Monday, July 31, 2023, south of the intersection of Decker and Darr roads. Fire units responding included Scottville Fire Department and Custer Fire Departments. Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire quickly upon arriving on scene.
Farmer Paul Monton said he believed the fire started from something his combine struck. Monton drove the combine back to the road and discovered more fire inside the hopper, which he was able to extinguish. Monton leases the land from Howard and Amy Haselhuhn.
Fountain Area Fire Department Auxiliary also responded to the scene.
