14-year-old driver involved in head-on crash

SHERMAN TOWNSHIP — A 14-year-old from Pentwater was the driver in a head-on crash Wednesday morning, July 26, on Sugar Grove Road west of Custer Road that seriously injured four people including the 14-year-old, according to Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole.

Riding as a passenger with the 14-year-old was a 35-year-old Pentwater woman. Also injured in the crash were a 40-year-old Ludington man who was driving the other vehicle and 16-year-old from Ludington who was a passenger in the man’s vehicle. “All received serious, but non-life threatening injuries, after the vehicle being operated by the 14-year-old crossed the center line and collided head-on with a westbound vehicle,” said Sheriff Cole.

The crash involved a Ford F-150 pickup truck and a Kia Sedona minivan. Emergency personnel were initially dispatched to the scene at 10:07 a.m. The F-150 appeared to be traveling west and the Sedona appeared to be traveling east.

Emergency units responding included Mason County Sheriff’s Office, Michigan State Police, Fountain Area Fire Department, Custer Fire Department, and Life EMS.
