Obituary: Susan Sandberg, 65, of Eastlake

Susan (Susie) R. Sandberg, 65, of Eastlake, died Saturday, July 22, 2023 at her home surrounded by her family.  She was born, August 12, 1957 in Manistee, the daughter of the late Leo and Marjorie (Adamski) Sandberg.  She was a graduate of Manistee High School with the class of 1975.

A loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, teacher, caregiver and compassionate confidant. Susie was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Bear Lake. Her unselfish and loving nature inspired her commitment and sacrifices to lead a life of service where she shared the generosity of her kindness, encouragement and compassion with others. She spent her early working years devoted to teaching and working in the school system.

Her most recent employment was with Munson Home Healthcare where she was caregiver for nearly 20 years.  Susie shared many special gifts and took on many roles that reflected the true depth of her endless and enduring love.  Her greatest role as a teacher and caregiver was when she became a mother, dedicated to raising her son, Michael.  She found true joy in putting others first, realizing and relishing in the importance of spending time with her family especially her grandchildren and sisters who were often known to be inseparable. She helped provide purpose and inspiration to those she encountered and fought the challenges that were presented to her later in life with grace and dignity.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Elizabeth Sandberg; her grandchildren, Ceceilia and Alice; her sisters, Rose Hilliard, Sharon Sandberg and her twin sister, Sandra Harvey; her brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Linda Sandberg; Her very close nieces, Amanda and Heather Harvey; Her very dear cousin, Marsha Chmielewski (Johnny Morley); her Uncle Phil and Aunt Sue Adamski;  numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Steven Sandberg and two brothers-in law, Bill Hilliard and Donald Harvey

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 29, 2023 at Herbert Funeral Home in Manistee with Pastor Al DeCatur.  A time of continued fellowship will follow at the Eastlake Hall.

Visitation will be held on Friday, July 28, 2023 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.  The family will also be at the funeral home on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of service to receive friends.
