Historical Society speaker series will discuss ‘The Economic Angels of Ludington’

LUDINGTON – In celebration of Ludington’s sesquicentennial, the Mason County Historical Society continues with the third of four in the Ludington 150th Speaker Series Thursday, July 12 with “The Economic Angels of Ludington.” The series presenter is James Jenson, president of the historical society.

The Ludington 150th Speaker Series aims to honor the city’s heritage through engaging presentations that share the vibrant history of Ludington.

Two men, Antoine E. Cartier and Justus S. Stearns, were the prime movers in the transition of the City of Ludington from a lumbering community to one based on industry and tourism. They were the “economic angels” of Ludington. The legacy of these two men and their families will be compared and contrasted using photos and other materials from the extensive archives of Mason County Historical Society.

The Ludington 150th Speaker Series will start at 7 p.m. at the Mason County Historical Society Research Center on the southwest corner of Ludington Avenue and Harrison Street in downtown Ludington.
