Wanted man faces several charges after giving police fake name during traffic stop

GRANT TOWNSHIP — A 50-year-old Manistee man, who was wanted for absconding parole on a drug-related conviction, now faces charges of methamphetamine possession, furnishing false information to a police officer and second-offense driving while license revoked following a traffic stop by Mason County sheriff’s deputies Sunday, July 9, around 1:45 p.m., in the 10000 block of North US 31 for a broken windshield, said Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole.

“During the traffic stop, the suspect provided the deputy with a fake name,” said Sheriff Cole. “The problem was, the name the driver provided, was that of a wanted person out of Newaygo County. This led to further inquiries as to who the driver actually was, and with the assistance of authorities in Manistee County, an identity was established.”

The suspect remains lodged in the Mason County Jail.
