Chew spit bottle allegedly thrown during road rage incident

AMBER TOWNSHIP — A chew spit bottle was allegedly thrown during a road rage incident on US 10-31 near Dennis Road Saturday, July 8, shortly after 10:30 a.m., according to Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole.

“The complainant alleges a bottle containing chew had been thrown at their vehicle by a person,” said Sheriff Cole. “The bottle of chew reportedly entered the passenger side window of the complainant’s vehicle and struck a passenger.”

The suspect was later identified as a 21-year-old Custer man, and the case will be forwarded to the Mason County Prosecutor’s Office for review.

  • 8:37 p.m., (MCSO), a 21-year-old Manistee man was arrested on an outstanding Mason County contempt of court warrant, US 31 and Countyline Road, Grant Township.

Saturday, July 8, 2023:

  • 5:05 a.m., (MCSO), one-vehicle crash, no injury, Hoague Road east of US 31, Free Soil Township. A vehicle struck a tree that had fallen in the roadway.
  • 5:05 a.m., (MCSO), motorcycle vs. tree crash, Hoague Road east of US 31, Free Soil Township. A 35-year-old Scottville man received non-life-threatening injuries after his motorcycle struck a tree that was down in the roadway.
  • 5:25 p.m., (MCSO), ​dog bite, Pere Marquette Highway and Olmstead Road, Summit Township. The complainant reported being bit by a dog, and a report was forwarded to Mason County Animal Control.
  • 7:58 p.m., (MCSO), damaged property, 5400 block of West Decker Road, Hamlin Township. The complainant reported his vehicle was damaged.

Sunday, July 9, 2023:

  • 1:25 a.m., (Ludington Police Department), a 54-year-old Oro Valley, Arizona woman was arrested for public intoxication, Atkinson Drive, City of Ludington. She was lodged in the Mason County Jail.
