California man arrested for ‘price tag switching’ at Walmart

PERE MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP — A 28-year-old Calexico, California man was arrested by Mason County sheriff’s deputies Tuesday, June 20, around 7:30 p.m. at the Walmart on US 10 “following an investigation by Walmart Loss Prevention that involved three different occasions of price tag switching in the past week,” said Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole. 

The man, who faces a charge of second-degree retail fraud, was lodged in the Mason County Jail.

Other activity of the Mason County Sheriff’s Office Tuesday, June 20, 2023 includes:

  • 5:05 a.m., car/deer crash, no injury, Pere Marquette Highway north of Marrison Road, Summit Township.
  • 11:46 a.m., car/deer crash, no injury, Quarterline Road north of Townline Road, Grant Township.
  • 12:35 p.m., one-vehicle crash, no injury, Angling Road north of Manales Road, Victory Township.
  • 2:11 p.m., two-vehicle crash, no injury, US 10 west of Meyers Road, Pere Marquette Township.
  • 8:12 p.m., retail fraud, Wesco Eastgate, 5600 block of West US 10, Pere Marquette Township. The case remains under investigation related to the theft of a pint of Black Velvet liquor.
