12-year-old boy heading to Gus Macker injured in US 31 crash

SHELBY TOWNSHIP (Oceana County) — Three people, who were heading to the Ludington Gus Macker 3-on-3 basketball tournament, were injured today during a single vehicle rollover crash on northbound US 31 near Shelby Road. Two people were ejected from the vehicle as a result of the crash, according to Oceana County Sheriff Craig Mast.

A 12-year-old boy suffered “multiple injuries,” and a 46-year-old man sustained a fractured arm and other injuries, said Sheriff Mast. A 15-year-old boy who was properly restrained in the vehicle with a seatbelt was “walking and talking” following the crash.

It’s possible that the driver of the vehicle that crashed was cut off by another driver, Mast said.

Emergency crews had northbound US 31 shut down in the vicinity of the crash scene.
