Historical Society launches Ludington 150th Speaker Series

LUDINGTON – In celebration of Ludington’s sesquicentennial, the Mason County Historical Society is launching its Ludington 150th Speaker Series by board president James Jensen. The series will feature four presentations highlighting the history of Ludington. 

The Ludington 150th Speaker Series aims to honor the city’s heritage through engaging presentations that share the vibrant history of Ludington.

The Speaker Series will start on Thursday, June 8, spanning several months, on the second Thursday of each month through September. Topics will include the naming of the streets, Star Watch Case Company, Ludington’s Angels, and an 1890s pub crawl. 

The Ludington 150th Speaker Series is an opportunity for residents and visitors to deepen their understanding of the city’s history, fostering a sense of community pride. In addition, attendees will enjoy exhibits located throughout the Mason County Research Center, 130 E. Ludington Ave., that showcase some of the Historical Society’s most treasured artifacts and documents.

“We are thrilled to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Ludington with this remarkable Speaker Series,” said Rebecca Berringer, executive director of the Historical Society. “Ludington has a rich history, and we believe this event series will help us reflect on the past, embrace the present, and envision the future of our wonderful city.”

The Ludington 150th Speaker Series will start at 7 p.m. at the Mason County Historical Society Research Center on the southwest corner of Ludington Avenue and Harrison Street in downtown Ludington. The series will kick off on Thursday, June 8, with a presentation on “Why Did We Choose Those Street Names?
