Broken down vehicle leads to theft, meth, warrant arrest

BRANCH TOWNSHIP — A 40-year-old Rothbury woman was arrested for possession of stolen property and meth possession in the 6600 block of East US 10 Sunday, May 7, around 6:30 p.m.​ and after Mason County deputies were called to a broken down vehicle that had been observed at the scene of a larceny on Martin Avenue the day before, said Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole.

The woman was also wanted on four outstanding failure to appear warrants in Mason and Oceana counties.

“During the investigation, deputies recovered several articles of suspected stolen property, which included the larceny victim’s ID,” said Sheriff Cole.

Friday, May 5, 2023:

  • 3:32 a.m., car/deer crash, (Mason County Sheriff’s Office), minor injury, US 31 near the Ludington rest area, Summit Township. A 48-year-old Ludington woman received minor injuries after she struck two deer.
  • 6:01 a.m., (MCSO), car/deer crash, no injury, Stiles Road north of Meisenheimer Road, Riverton Township.
  • 1:44 p.m., (MCSO), larceny of a John Deere ag computer monitor, 200 block of North Schoenherr Road, Branch Township. The complainant reported a computer monitor was stolen out of a tractor.
  • 4:21 p.m., (MCSO), larceny of a canoe, 10000 block of North Morton Road, Grant Township. The complainant reported the theft of an orange canoe.
  • 9:16 p.m., (MCSO), two-vehicle crash, no injury, US 10 and Pere Marquette Highway, Pere Marquette Township.

Saturday, May 6, 2023:

  • 2:40 p.m., (Michigan State Police), a 40-year-old Shelby woman was arrested for retail fraud, Walmart, US 10, Pere Marquette Township. She was lodged in the Mason County Jail.
  • 3:09 p.m., (MCSO), larceny, Martin Avenue, Branch Township. The complainant reported witnessing two subjects remove fencing, a windmill generator and a gas can from a neighbor’s property.
  • 6:35 p.m., (MCSO), hit-and-run crash, no injury, Meijer parking lot, 3900 block of West US 10, Amber Township. The complainant reported someone had struck their parked vehicle.
  • 7:59 p.m., (MCSO, car/deer crash, no injury, US 31 south of US 10, Amber Township.

Sunday, May 7, 2023:

  • 9:20 .m., (MSP), a 29-year-old Wyoming, Michigan woman was cited for operating without insurance, south US 31 near mile marker 162, Summit Township.
