By Rob Alway, Editor-in-Chief

SHERIDAN TOWNSHIP — Firefighters from five fire departments responded to a structure fire at 7121 E. Stolberg Road Tuesday afternoon. The first two fire departments were dispatched at 12:22 p.m. The first fire unit to arrive on scene reported the single-wide mobile home was fully engulfed in flames.

Fountain Area Fire Department Chief Jeremy Goble said much of the fire was contained to the ceiling and roof area of the trailer. A teenage occupant had been in the house at the time of the fire and was able to safely get out.

Fire departments on scene included Fountain Area Fire Department, Branch Township Fire Department, Custer Fire Department, Scottville Fire Department and Riverton Fire Department. Riverton Fire Department was dispatched to haul the Mason County Rural Fire Department’s air tank trailer, which is housed at the Custer fire station.

Other emergency and support personnel responding included Michigan State Police – Hart Post, Mason County Sheriff’s Office, Great Lakes Energy, Fountain Area Fire Department Auxiliary and American Red. Cross.

Goble said, on the scene, that he had not yet been able to determine a cause of the fire. The home is listed as being owned by Pansy Knott.
