Clown Band accepting summer arts camp scholarship applications

SCOTTVILLE — Every year the Scottville Clown Band awards scholarships to middle school and high school children attending summer performing arts education programs. These scholarships are awarded in the memory of Raymond Schulte, who restarted the band in 1947, following a five-year hiatus during World War II and officially named it the Scottville Clown Band. The band’s origins date back to 1903. 

The majority of the students receiving scholarships typically attend an arts camp such as Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp or Interlochen Center for the Arts. However, scholarships are certainly awarded to kids attending other programs as well.  

Since 1966, the Scottville Clown Band has awarded over half million dollars in scholarships. It is part of the organization’s mission, to encourage youth to pursue performing arts. 

The application process is underway for the 2023 summer season. The deadline to apply is May 14. Click on the following link to apply:
