Woman treated for breathing issues at apartment fire

LUDINGTON — A 23-year-old Ludington woman had difficulty breathing and was treated at the scene by Life EMS during an apartment fire at 802 N. Rowe St., on the northeast corner of Rowe and Whittier streets, Tuesday, March 21, around 6:40 p.m., according to Cpt. Steve Wietrzykowski of the Ludington Police Department, which assisted the Ludington Fire Department at the scene.

“No others on scene required any medical treatment,” said Cpt. Wietrzykowski. “The cause of the fire was likely due to an electrical issue. Residents were allowed to return to their apartments after police and fire units cleared the scene.”

The building is “a multi-family structure,” according to a Facebook post by the Ludington Fire Department. “The first apparatus arrived on scene within minutes of the initial page. After a quick primary search, it was determined that the apartment was not occupied. The fire was quickly knocked down and under control, within 20 minutes of arrival. We responded with four apparatus and 13 firefighters. We were assisted on scene by officers from the Ludington Police Department and Medic 1 from Life EMS ambulance. Thank you to the dispatchers from Mason-Oceana 911 who handled the call and dispatched all the appropriate units. All units were clear and back in service around 8 p.m.”
