Scottville area youth ball registration begins

SCOTTVILLE — The Scottville area summer youth t-ball, softball and baseball registration period has begun. Participation is based on the grade the child is currently enrolled in during the 2022-2023 school year:  T-ball (coed), kindergarten through second grade; Pony League softball (girls): third and fourth grades; Mites baseball (boys): third and fourth grades; Elementary League softball (girls): fifth and sixth grades; Junior baseball (boys): fifth and sixth grades); Junior High League softball (girls): seventh and eighth grades; West Shore League baseball (boys): seventh and eighth grades.

T-ball games are played at McPhail Field in Scottville, Riverton Township field, St. Mary’s Field in Custer and Fountain village field. Baseball and softball games are typically played at McPhail Field in Scottville, St. Mary’s Field in Custer, Riverton Township field and Oriole Field in Ludington.

The Scottville area recreation program is administered by Mason County Central Schools and is open to any child regardless of school district or community of residence. The cost is $50 per participant for any league, which includes hat and t-shirt to keep.

The program is also in need of volunteer coaches. Anyone interested in helping may contact Director Jim Bowen at 231-757-4748, extension 262 or may fill out the appropriate area in the registration form.

The following registration events are scheduled at Mason County Central High School cafeteria:

  • Thursday, March 23, 3:15 to 5:45 p.m.
  • Monday, April 3, 6 to 7 p.m.
  • Wednesday, April 5, 6 to 7 p.m.
  • Saturday, April 8, 9 a.m. to 10:15 a.m.

Alternatively, parents may also register by mailing the registration form to Scottville Recreation, Mason County Central High School, 300 W. Broadway Ave., Scottville, MI 49454. Any registrations made after April 21, 2023 will not be guaranteed placement on a certain team and are subject to a $10 late fee. If placement is possible, late registrations will be placed in a lottery for team placement regardless of whether or not the child played the previous year or has a requested a specific team.
