Steve McLellen

Obituary: Steven McLellen, 61, of Ludington

Steven Ray McLellen, 61, of Ludington, formerly of Fruitport, passed away Sunday March 19, 2023. Steve was born April 2, 1961, the son of Max McLellen and Barbara (George) Rees. Steve was a 1979 graduate of Fruitport High School. After graduating he went on to attend West Shore Community College for the apprenticeship program in the electrical field. On August 21, 1993, Steve married the love of his life, Wendy (Kraus) McLellen.

Steve was a long-standing member of the Ludington Boat Club for 20-plus years. He loved boating, water skiing and fishing. He was an avid golfer and had golfed over 300 different courses across the country. He spent his childhood summers on his grandparents’ fruit farm here in Ludington and ultimately took the farm over for the last 32 years. His true passion has always been farming. Along with farming he worked as an electrician for the past 40 years and a standing member of the IBEW Local 275 for 28 years.

Ultimately Steve loved spending time with his friends. Whether it was his lifelong friend he has known since his youth to the good friends he made along the way. He was the guy that would drop everything he was doing to help a friend when needed and they would do the same.

Steve worked hard his entire life to support his family and missed out on being there a lot for his children that he loved tremendously. Later in life when things slowed down a bit, he spent a great deal of time with his grandchildren whom he adored. From teaching his grandson to drive to playing endless boardgames with his granddaughter. Steve loved hard and played well.

Steve is survived by his wife, Wendy (Kraus) McLellen; children, Rory (Kayla) Walkley, Cierra (Tyler) Cornwall, and Rudy Walkley; grandchildren, Leland Walkley and Mia Wright; sisters, Michelle Johnson and Tina McLellen; foster-siblings, Jay Urban and Theresa (Urban) Barley; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, and cousins.

Steve was preceded in death by his father, Max McLellen and stepfather, George Rees.

A memorial service will be held Saturday March 25, 2023, at Oak Grove Funeral Home of Ludington. Visitation will begin at noon with the service beginning at 1 p.m. Arrangements have been entrusted to Oak Grove Funeral Home of Ludington, www.oakgroveludington.com.
