Deputies investigate ‘under ringing’ at Walmart

PERE MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP — Mason County sheriff’s deputies are investigating a recent of rash of “under ringing”of merchandise at Walmart on US 1o, said Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole.

“Under ringing” typically involves scanning in cheaper items for more expensive items in the self check-out lane.

The crimes, which are categorized as retail fraud, were reported on three different occasions beginning at the end of January.

Other police activity in Mason County Tuesday, March 7, 2023 includes:

  • 6:44 a.m., (Mason County Sheriff’s Office), car/deer crash, no injury, Fountain Road east of Darr Road, Sherman Township.
  • 10:22 a.m., (Ludington Police Department), a 36-year-old Pentwater woman turned herself in on two Mason County warrants for amphetamine possession, 600 block of North Lakeshore Drive, City of Ludington. ​She was lodged in the Mason County Jail.
  • 3:24 p.m., (MCSO), two-vehicle crash, no injury, US 31 off-ramp to Pere Marquette Highway, Pere Marquette Township.
  • 4:28 p.m., (LPD), a 36-year-old Ludington woman was cited for improper license plate, Ludington Avenue and Jackson Road, City of Ludington.
  • 6:14 p.m., (MCSO), two-vehicle crash, no injury, US 10 and Pere Marquette Highway, Pere Marquette Township.
