Suspect demanding to be shot by police subdued with taser

HAMLIN TOWNSHIP — A 32-year-old Ludington man demanding to be shot by police was tased and then arrested on charges of attempted breaking and entering and resisting and obstructing police Monday, Jan. 30, around 9 p.m. in the 6600 block of West Dewey Road, according to Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole.

Mason County sheriff’s deputies were called to the scene for an “unwanted person/disturbance call” said Sheriff Cole. “The caller, a female, had reported a male subject, who was known to her, had showed up at a home she was cleaning and attempted to gain entry. During the call, the female reportedly locked herself in a bathroom.”

Sheriff’s deputies and Ludington police officers spotted a moped — which the suspect was known to ride — in the driveway, and fresh tracks in the snow led to the woods behind the home.

Deputies located the suspect walking away from the residence. “When approached by deputies, he started yelling threatening comments towards law enforcement and demanded to be shot,” said Sheriff Cole. “During the incident, the suspect repeatedly refused to comply and was eventually forced to be tased to gain compliance.”

He was lodged in the Mason County Jail.
