2 finalists chosen for LPD chief position

By Rob Alway, Editor-in-Chief

LUDINGTON — Two candidates are finalists for the City of Ludington police chief position. Following a review of the candidates, City Manager Mitch Foster has announced that Jeffrey Christensen of Augusta, Mich. and Christopher Jones of Holland, Mich. will be interviewed for the position, left vacant after the resignation of Timothy Kozal last summer. Kozal is now the director of public safety for the City of Muskegon.

The candidates are scheduled for one on one interviews with the city manager. They also are being asked to attend community interviews on Thursday, Feb. 23 with an offer being made by Feb. 27. A timeline furnished by Foster states an expected start date of the beginning of March.

Jones

Christensen has over 30 years experience in law enforcement, including working for the Village of Nashville (Michigan) Police Department, City of Eaton Rapids Police Department, Western Michigan University Public Safety and currently, Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office, where he has spent the last 10 years in administration; he is currently a captain there.

Jones most recently was a lieutenant with the Newark Police Department in Newark, De. Earlier this month he retired as a special enforcement division commander. He worked in Newark for 20 years. His other experience has included serving as a police officer at East Texas Regional Airport in Longview, Texas, and as a police officer/firefighter with Grand Haven Department of Public Safety. He began his law enforcement career in 1996.

This is the second round of candidates for Ludington police chief. Last fall, the finalist candidates withdrew.
