Suspected meth found during couple’s shoplifting arrest 

PERE MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP — Five grams of suspected methamphetamine were found on a male suspect during a shoplifting investigation Thursday, Jan. 12, shortly before 8 p.m., according to Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole.

A 30-year-old Mears man and a 32-year-old Hart woman were both arrested on charges of retail fraud following a traffic stop related to a “be on the lookout” for a suspect vehicle involved in a reported theft from Dunham’s. During the investigation, approximately 5 grams of suspected meth were found, resulting in an additional charge of methamphetamine possession for the male suspect.

Other activity of the Mason County Sheriff’s Office Thursday, Jan. 12, 2023 includes:

  • 5:58 p.m., car/deer crash, no injury, Jebavy Drive north of Pleasant Ridge Road, Pere Marquette Township.
  • 8:38 p.m., car/deer crash, no injury, Scottville Road north of Kinney Road, Eden Township.
