Three accused shoplifters flee from Dollar General before police arrive

GRANT TOWNSHIP — The Mason County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shoplifting case involving three Manistee people who began stealing merchandise from Dollar General on North US 31, but fled before deputies arrived Friday, Jan. 6, shortly before 9 a.m., according to Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole.

“The complainant reported three persons in the business and started concealing items on them,” said Sheriff Cole. “The suspects fled before the arrival of Mason County sheriff’s deputies, but have been identified. The case is under investigation and involves three individuals from Manistee.”

  • Friday, Jan. 6, 2023:
  • 7:52 a.m., (Mason County Sheriff’s Office), car/deer crash, no injury, Sugar Grove Road west of Darr Road, Sherman Township.
  • 9:15 a.m., (MCSO), car/deer crash, no injury, Custer Road north of Johnson Road, Custer Township.
  • 1:11 p.m., (MCSO), two-vehicle crash, no injury, US 10 and Jebavy Drive, Pere Marquette Township.
  • 8:04 p.m., (Michigan State Police), a 30-year-old Walhalla man was arrested for methamphetamine possession, operating without insurance and a failure to appear warrant, Reek Road near Manales Road, Sherman Township. 

Saturday, Jan. 7, 2023:

  • 11:55 a.m., (MCSO), one-vehicle crash, no injury, Lakeshore Drive and Decker Road, Hamlin Township.
  • 5:24 p.m., (MCSO), larceny, 5900 block of East Ford Lake Road, (Sheridan Township. The complainant reported various items stolen from the home.

Sunday, Jan. 8, 2023:

  • 5:40 a.m., (MCSO), car/deer crash, no injury, Free Soil Road near Ordway Road, Free Soil Township.
  • 9:44 a.m., (MCSO), warrant arrest, 1600 block of West Sugar Grove Road, Victory Township. A 38-year-old Pinckney man was arrested on an outstanding Mason County failure to appear warrant following a 911 call reporting a verbal argument.
