Man, 70, allegedly punches deputy and bites officer.

PERE MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP — A 70-year-old Ludington man was arrested for assault and assaulting/resisting/obstructing police after he allegedly assaulted a female victim and then punched a Mason County sheriff’s deputy in the chest and bit a Ludington police officer Thursday, Dec. 29, shortly after 9 p.m., in the 5900 block of West Sixth Street according to Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole.

Deputies responded to the scene for an assault in progress. Upon arrival, a deputy observed the suspect on top of a female assaulting her, said Sheriff Cole. “The deputy attempted to pull the male off the female and was punched in the chest. An LPD officer arrived to assist and was reportedly bitten by the suspect during the arrest.”

The suspect was lodged in the Mason County Jail.

  • 7:49 a.m., car/deer crash, no injury, US 10 east of Federal Forest Trail #6670, Branch Township.

Saturday, Dec. 31, 2022:

  • 4:58 a.m., ​assaulting/resisting/obstructing a police officer arrest, southbound US 31 near Chauvez Road, Pere Marquette Township. A 28-year-old Allendale man was arrested after he was found passed out behind the wheel of a running vehicle sitting alongside the US 31. “During sobriety testing, he became non-compliant and started fighting the deputy,” said Sheriff Cole.
  • 7:20 a.m., car/deer crash, no injury, Decker and Kennedy roads, Hamlin Township.
  • 11:23 a.m., two-vehicle crash, no injury, US 10 east of Brye Road, Amber Township.
  • 5:26 p.m., car/deer crash, no injury, Reek Road south of Dewey Road, Sherman Township.
  • 7:52 p.m., warrant arrest, Jebavy Drive north of Johnson Road, Pere Marquette Township. A 42-year-old Ludington woman was arrested on a felony probation violation warrant following a traffic stop.
